Newt Gingrich överväger presidentkandidatur 2012

Den republikanske frontfiguren New Gingrich överväger en en presidentkandidatur 2012. Just nu tänker han fokusera på att hjälpa republikanska kandidater inför höstens kongressval, men i februari 2011 tänker han bestämma sig om han ska ställa upp som presidentkandidat 2012.

"It's fair to say that by February the groundwork will have been laid to consider seriously whether or not to run," kommenterade han.

Gingrich förklarade att Obama var en en-periodspresident och att Obama inte var som president Clinton:

"He's not like Bill Clinton," sa Gingrich. "Bill Clinton was an Arkansas, Southern Baptist, sort of understood middle American. While he had some Yale overtones being liberal, the truth is Bill Clinton was quite happy to move to the right."

Gingrich förklarade också att Obama förmodligen skulle komma att bli den sämsta presidenten i modern tid, sämre än Jimmy Carter:

"I think he will replace Jimmy Carter as the worst president of modern times,"

Gingrich som brukar använda utsvävande retorik kommenterade också sitt språkbruk och sa att han inte trodde att det skulle skrämma bort mittenväljare:

"I think likable is a word you have to think about a lot. If people believe their country is in trouble, they want a captain of the lifeboat, they don't want a fraternity brother."
